Grenada boasts of an extremely vibrant and talented pan movement. Within the last decade, the Steelband movement has made enormous strides; in the quality of instruments, the quality of music, in the technical skills of the pannists, in the musical skills, and in the number of pan arrangers, and yes, so importantly in the increase of youngsters, both teenagers and pre-teens, involved with the art form. Added to this, is the respect for and the social acceptance of the artform that manifests itself in the large number of women and young girls now playing pan. These combined elements have in recent years placed Spice Island Steelbands on a level where they can compete with the best in the business.

Three of the top bands, NCB Angel Harps, GBC New Dimension and Cable & Wireless Commancheros have more or less dominated the eighties and the nineties. The were joined in the nineties by Pan Wizards when they emerged as genuine contenders. Another band on the upward move is Rainbow City All Stars, one of the youngest bands in Grenada.

Indeed, it is no idle talk when we say that Grenada's Steelbands are fit to rank with the best the world has to offer. So come along, visit the following pages and discover a whole new World of Pan with 'Spice Island Steelbands'.
